Garland, Samuel & Loeb: Leading Georgia Criminal Defense, Civil Law and Personal Injury Law Firm
A Long History of Excellence
Garland, Samuel & Loeb has a reputation for excellence that is widely recognized and respected in the legal community. A reputation built on more than 20 years in pursuit of one goal, obtaining justice for every client that walks through their doors.
In the 1920s, the firm's founder, Reuben Garland, was the South's most successful and flamboyant trial lawyer. Liable to appear in court in a sky-blue silk suit, or in a tuxedo with tails, twirling a walking stick, Garland held the record for the largest civil damages verdict in the state of Georgia and was recognized as the premier criminal defense attorney in the southeastern United States. His courtroom appearances were crowd-pleasing events; his cases were covered by magazines and newspapers across America.
Today, the law firm of Garland, Samuel & Loeb has seven attorneys including four partners. In 1965, Reuben's younger son, Edward T. M. Garland, joined the firm, which became Garland & Garland. Robin Loeb joined the firm in 1979 and Don Samuel joined the firm in 1982. Don Samuel has authored three books since joining the firm, The Eleventh Circuit Criminal Law Handbook, The Georgia Criminal Law Case Finder and The Federal Criminal Law Digest , books which have come to be relied upon not only by defense attorneys throughout the southeast, but by federal and state court judges, as well.
Garland, Samuel & Loeb has handled many highly publicized cases. On the criminal side, past clients have included Ray Lewis, all-pro linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, Jamal Lewis, all-pro runningback for the Baltimore Ravens, Danny Heatley all-star forward for the Atlanta Thrashers and Jim Williams, the protagonist in the non-fiction book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. On the civil side, we are not at liberty to disclose the details of many cases, but suffice to say that the firm has negotiated many multi-million-dollar settlements, including one case for $9 million and another for $5.2 million. The law firm of Garland, Samuel & Loeb has been recognized for its high professional legal standards and ethics in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers . Don Samuel and Ed Garland have both been inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, the premier association of trial lawyers in the country. No other law firm in Georgia with a specialty in criminal practice has two members in the College. Both Don and Ed have also been listed in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America, since the publication was first issued in 1992.
